Nick Carter Breaks Down in Tears as He and Sister Angel Open Up About Tragic Losses in New Documentary

Nick Carter is baring his soul in an emotional new documentary, The Carters: Hurts to Love You, as he reflects on the heartbreaking losses that have shattered his family.

The 45-year-old Backstreet Boys star lost his younger brother, Aaron Carter, in 2022. Aaron, just 34 at the time, tragically drowned in a bathtub after struggling with substance abuse. But the pain doesn’t end there—Nick has also had to say goodbye to his sisters Leslie, who passed away at 25 in 2012, and Bobbie Jean, who died at 41 in 2023. Now, only he and Aaron’s twin sister, Angel, remain.

The upcoming Paramount+ documentary, airing next month, gives a raw and emotional look into the Carter family’s struggles. In the trailer, Nick is seen breaking down in tears as he hugs Angel, crying, “Five kids, we’re all that’s left.”

Angel, deeply affected by Aaron’s turbulent life in the spotlight, reflects on her twin’s struggles. Over childhood footage of Aaron, she says, “Imagine being a child, but forced to live like an adult. Your childhood is taken away from you.”

She goes on to reveal the painful reality behind his downfall. “When fame embraces you, you have to hide your pain. No one sees what’s really happening.”

Aaron’s battle with addiction and mental health issues was widely documented, often playing out publicly. Angel now wants to tell his true story. “I can be a voice for him. This is what really happened behind the scenes.”

Her grief runs deep—not just for Aaron, but for Leslie as well. “When she died, I was already in therapy, preparing for Aaron’s death. I knew this day was going to come. And I think he knew it, too.”

The Carters: Hurts to Love You is set to be a deeply personal and heartbreaking documentary that pulls back the curtain on the struggles of a family in the spotlight. It premieres next month on Paramount+.
