Johnny Mathis Announces Retirement After 7 Decades of Music

Legendary singer Johnny Mathis has decided to retire from live performances after an amazing 70-year career. The 89-year-old, known for hits like “Chances Are” and “Wonderful, Wonderful,” shared the news on his Facebook account, explaining that age and memory issues have become more difficult for him.

Johnny is set to celebrate his 90th birthday soon, but due to his health, he will stop touring. He will finish a few more concerts, with his last performance scheduled for May 18th in Englewood, New Jersey. All concerts after June 2025 have been canceled.

Johnny Mathis has been a beloved performer since his first album came out in 1956. A recent review of one of his shows praised his voice as still beautiful, saying it sounded just like it did in the 1960s. Mathis thanked his fans for their years of love and support, ending his post with the words, “It’s truly been ‘Wonderful, Wonderful.'”
