Hollywood star Stephen Dorff has surprised fans by lending his voice to The Darkness’ latest album, Dreams on Toast. Best known for his roles in Blade, Backbeat, and Somewhere, the 51-year-old actor unexpectedly became part of the iconic glam-rock band’s new music.
How the Collaboration Happened
Dorff, a longtime fan of The Darkness, happened to be in London when he visited guitarist Dan Hawkins’ studio. While the band was working on their song Weekend in Rome, lead singer Justin Hawkins spontaneously asked Dorff to record a spoken-word monologue for the track.
“Justin was coming up with lines on the spot,” Dorff shared. “He told me, ‘Think of it as a dream—you’re on a plane, sleepy and sad.’ He’s got a wild creative mind and kept feeding me these great lines.”
Though Dorff recorded for multiple songs, Weekend in Rome was the one that made the final cut.
A Rock Fan at Heart
Dorff has always admired The Darkness, praising their mix of humor, edge, and Justin Hawkins’ unique voice. “I’ve followed their music for years. They’re one of those bands that really stand out,” he said.
With his unexpected rock star moment now part of Dreams on Toast, Dorff’s collaboration with The Darkness adds a fresh twist to both his acting career and the band’s signature sound.
