Lizzo isn’t letting negative reviews bring her down! The 36-year-old singer, known for hits like About Damn Time, responded to critics who weren’t impressed with her latest single, Still Bad.
Some music reviewers claimed her upbeat, feel-good style—often called “poptimism”—doesn’t work anymore. But Lizzo shut down that idea on social media.
“Saying my style doesn’t fit in a ‘post-COVID world’ is just lazy,” she wrote on X. “I literally made About Damn Time to help people feel good after lockdown—and it worked!”
She also explained that Still Bad is about stepping away from negativity online. “It starts with me saying, ‘I’m bouta throw my phone away’—it’s about disconnecting and refocusing.”
Lizzo went on to suggest that some of the criticism she gets is fueled by racism. “Seeing a Black woman make joyful, real music seems to bother some people,” she wrote, adding that she’s following in the footsteps of legends like Janet Jackson and Earth, Wind & Fire.
The next day, she returned to X to call out people who criticize her for everything—from her weight to her success. “You mad I lost weight? Stay mad. Bitter that I make hits? Stay bitter,” she said.
She also pointed out that some people only go viral when they talk badly about her. “If you have to mention me to get attention… honestly, you’re welcome.”
Despite the online drama, Lizzo is moving forward. Her fifth album, Love in Real Life, is set to drop this year—though she hasn’t revealed the exact release date yet. Fans are already excited to hear what’s next!
