Flavor Flav is keeping it real with fans after revealing that he recently had a slip in his sobriety journey.
The legendary Public Enemy rapper, known for his honesty and larger-than-life personality, shared on Instagram that after more than four years of being sober, he briefly relapsed. But he’s not hiding it — and he’s ready to get back on track.
“I remain authentic to who I am, and a large part of the past 4.5 years for me has been my sobriety journey.” Flav wrote in his Instagram story. I think I’ve been an inspiration to many that if I could get sober, anyone can do it.
Flavor Flav has been open about his struggles with addiction in the past. Last October, he proudly celebrated four years of sobriety on World Mental Health Day. In a 2023 interview, he even revealed he once spent up to $2,600 a day on drugs, all while keeping it hidden from the public.
Now, the Grammy-winning star is facing his journey head-on again. “But just when you think it’s easy, it ain’t. I briefly relapsed. I say this to admit my mistake and publicly hold myself accountable. I am a human being who makes mistakes, and it doesn’t make me a bad person. I hope those who are around me support my choice to be sober.
I went back to Day 1, again.
Time didn’t stop, my journey continues.”
Flav ended his message with hope, asking for support from those around him and reminding everyone that recovery isn’t always a straight path — but every step forward still counts.
His honesty and courage are a reminder that it’s never too late to start over.
