Country singer Conner Smith has cancelled two upcoming performances after he was involved in a tragic car accident that led to the death of a 72-year-old pedestrian.
The 24-year-old singer was driving in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 8 when he accidentally struck Dorothy Dobbins, who was crossing at a designated pedestrian crosswalk. The incident has left the artist in a deeply emotional state, prompting him to take a step back from his scheduled appearances.
Sometimes, due to some urgent, special and emotional reasons, our favorite artists and singers have to cancel their shows. A Few days ago, Halsey Cancels Bangor Show Due to Sudden Vocal Cord Issue.
In a statement released by his team, Conner Smith has chosen to “take time to privately process recent events” and will no longer perform at his scheduled show on June 20 at a country club in Akron, Ohio.
“As Conner Smith takes time to privately process recent events, he will unfortunately not be performing in Akron on June 20,” his representative said. “We appreciate your understanding and continued support during this difficult time.”
Additionally, Smith has withdrawn from the Buckeye Country Superfest, which is set to take place on June 21. Organizers of the festival announced the change on social media, saying:
“Conner Smith will unfortunately not be performing this weekend. Vincent Mason will be joining us at The Shoe in his place.”
Authorities have stated that no criminal charges will be filed against Smith. According to the local police report, the singer failed to yield the right of way, which appears to be the primary cause of the accident. Importantly, police confirmed that Conner Smith showed no signs of impairment at the time of the crash.
“The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian,” the police statement read.
Fans and fellow artists have expressed their sympathy for both Smith and the victim’s family, with many offering support during this heartbreaking time.
