Alice Merton Sues Kanye West Over Unauthorized Sample

Singer Alice Merton is suing Kanye West for using a part of her song “Blindside” without permission in his track “Gun To My Head.” Merton claims West used her vocals and melody from her song in his song, which features Ty Dolla $ign and Kid Cudi.

The lyrics “I sat down with a gun to my head” from Merton’s song appear in West’s track, and the melody is repeated throughout the song. Merton says she was “shocked and humiliated” when she found out about the sample, which happened after West performed it in December 2023.

Merton also said she was never contacted for approval before West performed the song. She and her label refused to clear the sample when they were contacted months later. Merton, who is from Germany and is a descendant of Holocaust survivors, added that West’s public antisemitic comments made her not want to be associated with him.

“Gun To My Head” was not part of West’s 2024 album Vultures 1 but was later included as a bonus track on Vultures 2.
